“Wine to me is passion. It’s family and friends. It’s warmth of heart and generosity of spirit. Wine is art. It’s culture. It’s the essence of civilization and the art of living.” – Robert Mondavi
He would know. As one of the early pioneers of the Napa Valley viticultural area, Robert Mondavi knew how wine can change a person’s life, how it can recalibrate their being.
And so do I.
My love of wine developed suddenly, almost overnight, at a time when I truly felt lost and uninspired. A coworker poured me a glass that spoke to be like no wine before it ever had: a 2010 Stag’s Leap Merlot, my “Epiphany Wine,” and my entire life changed in an instant. I dedicated myself to the study of this delicate and delicious artform, and when I found myself heading down this new and unexpected path, I never looked back.
You can call me many things: Wine Specialist, Oenophile, or even “Geek with a corkscrew.” Most recently I’ve earned the title of Certified Sommelier by The Court of Master Sommeliers; a title and honor I am proud to hold. Honestly though, you can just call me Michelle. That’s probably easiest.
I’ve been in the wine industry for few years now, climbing quickly through the ranks as a Bartender, Tasting Room Associate, Salesperson, Wine Buyer, and Sommelier. It has been a challenging, complicated, and incredible journey, and I’ve never regretted a single second of it.
“Wine is the only artwork you can drink.” – Luis Fernando Olaverri
It’s true. Wine has been discussed and rejoiced by every artist and philosopher from Plato to Tennessee Williams. For hundreds of years it’s been the favorite beverage of the elite and working class alike, seeming to generate a spark of inspiration and kinship. Wine brings people together, and bonds them together. It highlights celebrations, and eases the pains of defeat. Wine is art. Wine is warmth. Wine is love. Wine is, deservingly, the most celebrated libation known to man.
I hope to use this blog to highlight some of the exceptional wines that come across my table, to talk about my experiences in the wine industry, and to simply share my passion with anyone that cares to listen.
